Where to Donate
Temple Beth Israel endowment funds offer you a variety of options that reflect your interests and legacy. Your generosity will enable us to continue the traditions and events you love and secure a vibrant Jewish future at Temple Beth Israel.
Contributing to any of these funds can also be a meaningful way to: celebrate a life cycle event, remember the life of a loved one, pass down your values to your family and your community.
Listed below are the funds available. If you do not see a fund that meets your wishes, the Finance Committee can assist you in creating a fund designed for you and Temple Beth Israel.
TBI BUILDING FUND
Previously founded as the TBI 100th anniversary fund. This fund is the repository of building fund assessments.
GENERAL FUND
Established by Samuel Laventan to support the operating expenses of the Temple.
NAT NEWMAN FUND
Established by Josephine Newman, in honor of her husband. This fund helps needy congregants determined by the Rabbi and Temple Beth Trustees.
YUDIN FUND
The Lazarus and Genevieve Fund was created by Mr. Yudin to honor the memory of his wife Genevive. The donors desired this fund to support worthy causes in the underprivileged community.
SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE FUND
The Clarisse and Arthur Markowitz Scholar in Residence fund was set-up by the Markowitz family to support academic and intellectual activities for the congregation.
SAMUELSON FUND
The Evelyn M. and Harry J. Samuelson TBI Fund was originally an endowment in the name of Evelyn M. and Harry J. Samuelson. This fund supports the operating expenses of the Temple.
RABBI’S DISCRETIONARY FUND
Contributions to this fund are distributed confidentially, by the Rabbi, to members of our congregation in need and for the charitable purposes consistent with the Temple’s mission.
RABBI JEFFREY ASTRACHAN RELIGIOUS SCHOOL FUND
Donations help provide opportunities for field trips, inter-congregational collaboration, special presentations, teacher training programming to further the overall Jewish experiences for young members.
TECHNOLOGY FUND
Donations help modernize our Temple’s technical infrastructure and capabilities of the website, computer software and hardware, religious services and school, and special events.
RELIGIOUS SCHOOL TUITION ASSISTANCE FUND
This fund assists families with their religious school tuition. Application is available under privacy with the Rabbi.
RUTH MANUS MEMORIAL FUND
Contributions to this fund serve to promote continuing education and collaboration that supports and strengthens Jewish identity beyond the B’nei Mitzvah/Confirmation class. Distributions from this fund may be used, but is not limited to, retreats, speakers, memberships to youth organizations or other purposes that will help facilitate or advance a members spiritual education.
BREIN LEADERSHIP FUND
Contributions enable the ongoing employment of an Executive Director, a role critical to attracting and retaining clergy and board leaders, and to ensure more efficient operations.
DESIGNATED FUNDS AT THE JEWISH COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA
SAMUELSON MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT FUND
The Evelyn Samuelson Fund was established by Evelyn Samuelson to support the general purposes of Temple Beth Israel.
TBI BUILDING ENDOWMENT - L’DOR V’DOR FUND
The TBI Building Endowment was established by the Temple to improve or repair the building and grounds.
RABBI GOLDENBERG SCHOLARSHIP FUND
This fund was established by Allison and Bryan Siegelman. It supplies scholarships to under 18 youth to enhance their Jewish life and identity.
SAMUELSON RELIGIOUS SCHOOL FUND
The Evelyn M. and Harry J. Samuelson TBI Fund was originally an endowment in the name of Evelyn M. and Harry J. Samuelson. This fund benefits the Temple religious school.
TBI SISTERHOOD FUND
The Sisterhood Fund was created by the Temple sisterhood to support the religious school.
TBI CANTORIAL / RABBINIC ENDOWMENT FUND
The Cantorial - Rabbinic Endowment Fund was established by Temple Beth Israel to support cantorial and rabbinic services that will enhance the experiences and serve the needs of the congregation.
LYNNE AND MARTIN SHAPIRO RELIGIOUS SCHOOL FUND
The Shapiro Religious School Fund was established by Martin and Lynne Shapiro. This funds supports the religious school by defraying operating expenses of the school and provide support for other charitable purposes of the school.
TEMPLE BETH ISRAEL LIFE AND LEGACY FUND
This fund was established by Temple Beth Israel to be used for the charitable, educational and religious purposes of the Temple.
